This set of mini wool combs with the 2 row fine headsets are designed for many of the fleeces we have available to us in Australia including alpaca and merino.
The headsets are aluminium and the tines are precision machined from stainless steel. The first row has 9 x 2.2mm tines set 2.5mm apart and the working area is 4 cm wide and 5.5 cm high.
The timber we use is recycled Blackwood and is sourced from a local mill.
There are optional interchangeable headsets available in 3 row ultrafine.
You can process stronger fibres on this comb set, you just can’t do as much due to resistance. Combing overly long fibres on this comb set is not very successful due to their shorter tine height.
Combing removes the vegetable matter, second cuts etc by trapping it behind or between the tines. Combed fibres are aligned parallel to make a smooth worsted or semi worsted yarn.
Combs are a perfect way to blend colours and texture. They can be used on their own or with a blending hackle. You have total control over the amount of colour and the proportion of each that are going to work in your roving.
