The standard headset has three rows and is suitable for your courser fibres and longer lengths. This kit comes with the comb set, a Petlyn screw clamp, a diz, diz threader, and the comb holder for $195.00 which is a saving of $10.00.
The headsets are aluminium and the tines are precision machined from stainless steel. The first row has 10 x 3.2mm tines set 5mm apart and the working area is 7 cm wide and 9.5 cm high.
The set comes with a Petlyn Screw Clamp which are designed on a classic cabinet makers bench clamp that holds tightly and won’t mark your product or surface. This adjustable screw clamp holds tightly on most surfaces. The angle betweek the jaws can be adjusted to give an even fit to your product and bench/table. The jaws are rubber lined to provide extra prevention against marking your product & bench/table. The jaws are blackwood to match the comb set. Maximum jaw capacity is 70mm.
Please Note: Standard headsets are designed for longer, courser fleeces and are a little outdated for the majority of our Australian fleeces. Combing fine fibres on standard style combs is not successful as the tines are spaced too far apart.
They assist in the first stage preparation of suri alpaca and mohair fleeces. The extra distance between the tines helps open up the locks without too much resistance. For best results finish with fine comb headsets.
The timber we use is recycled Blackwood and is sourced from a local mill.
There are optional interchangeable headsets available in 3 row fine, 3 row ultrafine or 4 row ultrafine.
Combing removes the vegetable matter, second cuts etc by trapping it behind or between the tines. Combed fibres are aligned parallel to make a smooth worsted or semi worsted yarn.
Combs are a perfect way to blend colours and texture. They can be used on their own or with a blending hackle. You have total control over the amount of colour and the proportion of each that are going to work in your roving.
